Birmingham based architectural ironmonger Allgood plc has been reaping the benefits of a hydraulic press purchased from machinery experts Zebra Worldwide Machinery. The investment, which took place six years ago, has allowed the company to increase their volume and bend pull handles up to 2 metres in length thanks to the bespoke bed and tooling.

As the only UK ironmonger with its own dedicated British manufacturing operation, Allgood routinely produces 100,000 products a year from its Birmingham plant. Committed to the highest quality, a hydraulic press is vital in the production of Allgood’s products. The company invested into the REHA machine and 80 tonne bed from Zebra after their machine, at the time back in 2016, was slow and in need of updating. The new machine means the firm is able to produce more of their famous pull handles in a shorter period of time.

Zebra works closely with their clients to ensure they are purchasing the correct machine fit for their needs. Therefore, after discussing challenges Allgood were facing with their old machine, Zebra produced a bespoke machine with a bed included and caged on one side only - allowing the engineers to access the press more easily. Since then the firm has not looked back and has had non-stop use of the updated machine. Ben Parsons, Operations Manager at Allgood, said:

“We are extremely happy with the machine we have purchased from Zebra in 2016, it has allowed us to increase our volume and has been as reliable as the day we purchased it. The service was great, and we have established a good working partnership with them. Recently the firm.  bought a guillotine from Zebra to help further increase internal production capabilities.”

Allgood is a champion of British manufacturing and believes in buying locally, backed up by the fact that the vast majority of their supply chain are within just a few miles of their facility. In support of their fellow Birmingham Business, Allgood have been advocates for Zebra machinery by showing Zebra’s clients around their facility to look at the machine. Rupert Winter-Moore, Managing Director at Zebra, said:

“We are dedicated to making machinery fit for the customer. We achieve this by partnering with them and being flexible in the process ensuring they receive the machine that is best suited to their needs.”
